EmpowerME: Menstruation Education
EmpowerME: Menstruation Education
EmpowerME is a menstrual hygiene initiative in Siaya County aimed at decreasing menstruation-related school absences and increasing knowledge on menstruation and menstrual hygiene. Our program includes distribution of MoonCatcher menstrual kits, delivery of menstrual hygiene and puberty education to girls and boys, and promotion of menstruation bracelets to reduce period stigma. For more information, visit our library.
About 95% of menstruating girls in Kenya miss 1-3 days of school each month because of their periods. Up to 70% of girls reported their grades were negatively impacted by the days missed.
Thanks to our generous donors and dedicated volunteers, we've been able to provide:
912 Students with Menstruation Education
53 Girls with Menstrual Hygiene Kits
Cervical Cancer Screening & Prevention
Cervical cancer is currently the most deadly cancer affecting women in Kenya. In 2024, we provided education on cervical cancer and HPV vaccination to over 50 women, and facilitated cervical cancer screening for 20 women, 19 of whom had never before received screening.
Please consider making a donation today to help us improve access to cervical cancer screening and prevention for women and girls in our community. You can also make a donation on Give Butter and credit one of our volunteers/interns for their hard work. Or find us on Venmo @juaniforwomen.
